The smaller jig at 140mm/5.5-inch in length is best suited for folding or smaller knives (up to 7inch long). The larger jig at 200mm/8-inch is better for larger, full tang and fixed blade knives (up to 12inch long). The 140mm jig has 38 fixing points: 19 x small and 19 x large. The 200mm jig has 60 fixing points: 29 x small and 31 x large.

I started with a jig flat grinding for a couple blades. Then I did a couple with a jig hollow ground on my 12" wheel for a few. Then I went to freehand on my 8" wheel with workrest and now I do everything completely freehand bellied up on my 12" wheel. Starting with a jig completely sped up my learning curve. Really help me to get a feel for it.

Re: sharpening a simple screwdriver. It is the same jig for both flat grinding and hollow grinding. You just rotate the blade 90 degrees and adjust the rest on the grinder. Then grind on the face of the wheel. note the clamp below the jig that sets equal placement of the hollow grind on both sides.

Jack, I use the Hollow Grinding Made Easy jig from Jantz Supply, and it works great, but it has two measurements during setup, that are crucial to the way it works, it takes a little practice to get it right. This jig allows you to grind both sides evenly as you progress with the grind.

I also find it a necessity to hollow grind all blades. I use a 6" wheel driven by a 1725 rpm motor with a 2:4 pulley set up to cut the speed in half. I made a tool rest which I can run my finger along to guide the grinding and slide the gouge or chisel in or out to get the wheel in contact with the center of the bevel of the tool.
